Winthrop is one of our favorite places to go visit. My best friend from college lives there and it’s always fun to go visit and spend quality time enjoying the outdoors with some of our best friends. Normally we are in Winthrop at least a couple times a year, but due to covid and a busy year before covid it had been over 2 years since our last trip to Winthrop! Crazy! We’d seen our friends in Seattle area and I even went on a girls horseback riding trip to Iceland in 2019 with my friend, but it was much overdue to go visit!

Normally, we love to go into town and get coffee, ice cream and visit Winthrop Glassworks (Garth’s work is AMAZING and we have several glasses from there), and just enjoy the quaint Western town. However, we were there over Mother’s Day weekend and there was a big parade in town. Since none of our kids are vaccinated and we’re all pretty cautious regarding covid we decided to stick closer to our friends place. Luckily there is no shortage of activities! In three days we fit in horseback riding, mountain biking, hiking, lots of delicious meals, hours of outside play for the kids, hot tubbing and plenty of coffee and wine drinking! It’s been a cold spring in Winthrop (was only 60 degrees) so everything is very green still. However the sun was shining and the sunflowers and lupines were in bloom so it made for some beautiful views and photos.

On Mother’s Day we went on a hike/bike ride with the kids. Syd & Nik are both getting much better at riding their bikes and it was their first time riding some mountain bike trails. Syd was typically a ways ahead of us keeping up with our friend’s son (he’s two weeks older than Syd and a great bike rider already)! Nik would ride a little ways in front of us as we were walking but she’d need a bit of help walking down some of the steeper sections. She’s only been riding her pedal bike for just shy of 2 months, so she’s doing great on the rougher terrain and hills! Over the three days we were in town she only had one crash over the handle bars and her confidence increased greatly! On our last afternoon Nik and I heard a rattlesnake… luckily we only heard it, but I happened to be filming so you can hear it rattling quite loudly! We’d talked about snakes before, but never thought about having them listen to rattling noises. Needless to say Nik and I had a chat about what the noise was and what to do if she saw/heard one again! Check out some of our photos and videos below!

Check out the video below to hear the rattlesnake that Nik and I went by. Luckily we just heard it and it didn’t strike! Can’t believe I happened to be filming when she rode by it. Yikes!
